PostSubject: SO here I am...   SO here I am... Icon_minitimeFri Dec 08, 2006 6:39 pm

I guess some people noticed that I don't work at the MIX anymore. I was hoping that with the poor ratings and hardly anyone listening, nobody would notice. I guess I need a new picture now.

Yes, I left the MIX... No, they didn't beg me to stay, in fact they helped me through the door. Thats the radio business, the second you let them know you don't want to be there anymore, thats when they don't want you anymore.

I do have quite an exciting set of plans for the new year. From January until March I will be student teaching at KOHS, 91.7 the voice of the TIGERS! I went through that program and now I get to teach a couple radio classes on top of the 4 history classes. These students are great! I spoke with some of them last week and they are excited to make KOHS the best it can be. What a great station it is and what great potential. KOHS is commercial free and it is going to be personality a-plenty! I'm sorry for you folks up in SLC who won't be able to hear it! I hope that I can get that teaching job when Ken Seastrand hangs it up!

I hope to someday on the air, but for now I am finishing up school and doing little things for KTCE to help them get off their feet. So, the answer is ... sorda. I didn't leave the MIX to go to KTCE, I have been talking to KTCE since I took care of the KOVO studios and KTCE's public files.

I am glad to see you excited about your new adventures! Smile

Can y'all get Mr. Morey to repair your 96.7 translator? Then at least the Salt Lake valley could sort of hear KOHS. I'm not even sure if that thing is still on.

Unless something changed while I wasn't looking the 96.7 translator is running KPGR, not KOHS. It might be possible to receive KOHS off-air from the Farnsworth area, but with KUFR on 91.7 just down the street it would be difficult engineering wise.

Mill Creek seems to have a history of crapping on people. They also have a history of people leaving them for better places. How many people at respectable stations started at Mill Creek? The more I learn about their operations, the less I respect them. It seems to me that they want people to do more for less, rather than respecting their employees and keeping them happy. I think, and it doesn't happen alot, that Mill Creek ought to try the route of having happy employees. Then the product gets better.

In one years time 949 the Blaze had Rexxx Loper, Jay Maddox and Micheal Dennis leave (oh yeah, the morning guy too). Some fired, some by their own will. If those Jocks were happy, they may have stayed and made things better. Better isn't Marci, Victor Cade and God help me Big Rog. They went the right route of playing music and talking less, but if you ask me, they still talk too much.

In just over one years time, The Mix has gone from Power to the Mix and lost Monroe, AJ, Fisher, Laura, and now Brian. I know that Fisher probably carried a big paycheck and that was only a matter of time, but why are all these quality people leaving? Is it because the Mix does't keep anyone happy? Maybe the Mix should play more music and shut up as well. The only ones at the Mix are the morning guy, and Dillon. AND guess who Dillon shares a last name with. I am sure that is why he is happy. Its not about the listener anymore, its about what two or three people want to get out of the station.

What good stations are out there anymore?? I almost thought for a moment that Mill Creek was the last of the little guys, but that doesn't mean that they had quality. I guess I will have to go back to sports radio... If only Ryan Hatch would leave already!

Ya know when the Mix had those guys it was the start of a great station better then a 0.9 station.

When I found out Brian worked for the Mix I did listen to his show at night at times! I figured if he was part of the board I owed him for checking out his show and I'm telling you I'm not worried about Brian because he sounded great and uptempo so I'm sure if he really wanted he could show up anywhere on the dial and anyplace (Meaning BIGGER Markets) But it sounds like Brian is excited about his new gig coming up and I wish him the best!!

As for the Mix! The best bet would be Question The Blaze simulcasting for the people up north to rock. Just a thought

Ya know, I'm really getting tired of people doggin' on Millcreek. First of all, there are plenty of people who have been at Millcreek for years. We'll start with me. I've been here for 7 years. Oh and let's talk about quality. Not to 'toot my own horn' folks, but I was recently awarded Hip Hop Music Director of the year by an industry trade. This award is voted on by my peers in the radio and record industry. And I'm not the only one that is quality at Millcreek. Apparently this company is so good to work for several people have come back, or want to come back. It's funny how those outside of this company have no clue how many more people want to come back. Oh ya...it's so terrible working here. It's so bad working here Booker - U92's night guy - came back after two years of being gone. It's so horrible at Millcreek that Kayvon came back. Millcreek is the worst, which is why U92's promotion director has been here 8 years.

For your information, some have left on bad terms. It happens at every company. Most have had a hard time leaving, and still have wonderful relationships with this company. Most are still good friends, not only to this company, but to me as well.

Truth be told...Millcreek is one of the better companies to work for in the country. So before you all start speculating - as is the case with these forums - why don't you get the facts?

I'll be damned Kevin joined to give his side of Millcreek and we all know every story has 2 sides.

And we all know Dj's move on to bigger markets and better deals and some just get fired for certain reasons and it seems like the ones that quit or get let go will come and vent against there ex-employee well I guess here? A Forum! And it's like that at any job if you get fired from IBM let's say I'm sure negative talk will come out of you about them/

I thin Loper/Maddox and others have left for better reasons (Bigger Markets ,More Pay Ect...)

AS for U92 and The Mix I think U92 does well because of it's formatting no-one else does pure Hip-Hop and The Mix well SLC has plenty of stations playing that type of music...

Here's a dream for me cheers

The Mix becomes like Phoenix's and San Fran's Energy station playing more dance-able or a little faster then 75BPM's like U92. Yea I know it would not pull the #'s but it sure would compliment U92 having a Hi Energy Station! Just A Dream but at least thay play House and Dance on XM for me
But this would be awescome in SLC
WWW.ENERGYARIZONAFM.COM

I am glad to see KC give his opinion here.

I agree with Kevin that Millcreek is a fun place to work and if you are on their good side like I was for 2 years, they will accept you with open arms, but it just didn't work out for me. There are two sides of my story also and I hope I didn't come across as doggin on Millcreek. I wasn't happy there and they obviously weren't happy with me and I think it was the radio business itself that disappointed me, not just who I worked for.

Its the nature of the beast!

So Bop, ease up! Dylan is the heart and soul of the Mix and he deserves what he gets there. Dylan was the one that made my transition there a good one, I came from a rock station! Dylan also goes the extra mile on a daily basis, and he's got skills.

I have to agree with Kevin too!

I know Dylan pretty well..Love Rog and the rest of the gang and Millcreek is one of the better places to work in the country.

You guys don't realize that radio is hard! Upper management runs it, not radio talent. That's why it's so important for radio talent to do their job and yet be able to interact with people. Management often does NOT know how to interact with the masses and they don't care to know that. Some management do not listen to the ideas and suggestions of their own talent. Some talent do not care about anything and it's all a vicious circle at many stations across the country.

I know Brian will do exactly what he aspires to do, because he has a love for people and that's what a good radio station is looking for. YOU GO, BRIAN! You are one of the very best there is!

Ok Ok, Mill Creek may have a few happy employees, but where are the ratings? The Blaze went down to a 2.0!!! The Mix is a 1.0!! and U92 also went down.

Yeah yeah yeah, they are just trends, but disturbing trends for their rock station who thought they were going to kick KBER out of the Rock ratings.

Lets see, anyone wanna guess what format 1079/1039 will take next?

I apologize for being late to this party. Someone just alerted me to the presence of this forum.

And I'm sorry for picking this scab but I feel compelled to give a big F&%K YOU to Big Bopper. Very Happy There are some of us in this building, as Kevin mentioned, who have been here for years. And it's because we love it. I've never felt so creatively free. I would take a bullet for just about anybody here. They are my brothers and sisters. My mothers and my fathers. My friends and soldiers.

You have absolutely NO idea why ANY of The Blaze staff left. Do you? But you sure enjoy shooting your mouth off.

Maybe you've never noticed, but this game takes TIME! We were stuck under an oppressive programming thumb for a long time and have just begun to dig ourselves out from under it. Revenue is up. Ratings will continue to climb. You're ready to hang us after two bad trends! Did you say the same about KBER after the summer book? WAKE UP. There will always be peaks and valleys.

I'm sorry. Are we taking too long to bring down a TWENTY YEAR station like KBER?? Are we not doing that fast enough for you? And are the THREE WHOLE talk breaks every hour too much for you? T-H-R-E-E?!?!?!? I'm so sorry. We'll cut that back for you.

And where does this Millcreek bias come from anyway? Did you work here at one point? Did we not pay you enough? I'm sorry. We are a very small company. We don't have "corporate resources". The people that work here do it for the love of the game. PERIOD. We take risks and we try the things we've always wanted to try but nobody would let us. The ones that want the big bucks, go across the street where their GM can wire the home office for more money. For the rest of us that stay, there are more important things.

I'm sorry if this was too harsh but Kevin's too nice and I will defend this house to my death. You're a dick, Bopper. And an uninformed one. Spare us your analysis.

PS - love you Baldwin...

Question for Rog? If the "Man" came in Monday and said Rog you've done a great job for us but??? We've got to let you go due to budget cuts and then escorted you around to your desk a to get your stuff and then escorted you to the door Would you still defend that company til' the death? Doubt it!!
You do make a good point and yes I agree that Big Bopper does put down Millcreek alot, is he an X-Employee? But he also is so negative on the other board as well Why?

HA, Rog ain't joking!

I love to see that Big Rog hasn't changed, always working hard. The hardest working man in radio!

Its a shame that things there didn't work out, but I came to find out that I wasn't even in the budget, so when I would try to talk to someone about money, they would look at me as the ungrateful one becuase they were doing me a favor.

I haven't checked this in a few days and Big Rog, I love the passion. I appreciate what you did to help me along. I will never forget when you called after one of my breaks to tell me "that was f??king awesome." That did a lot for my growth and confidence. I wish you the best and for heavens sake!!! quit arguing on this thread people!!! I was only trying to answer the question of what happened instead of replying to everyone's questions individually.
